The Future of Atheism: Beyond the Question of God – Point of Inquiry

I’m drawing attention to this particular podcast for one simple reason: It provides a glimpse into the ambitions and aspirations of contemporary atheism.

Basically what you have are three atheists- three noted individuals- discussing the future of atheism in America.  They explore the disadvantages and advantages of militant, that is, “loud and proud” atheism, as opposed to a more congenial “live and let live” style.  They discuss politics.  They outline ambitions.  Hopes.  And evaluate the growing secularism of society.

In a nutshell, the podcast is instructive and informative.  You get to hear the conversation from the inside, which is to say that we are provided a glimpse into the priorities and practical outworkings of atheism.

I found it interesting, not to mention illuminating.  If you are like me, you’ll also walk away from this podcast noting a number of parallels with practical Christianity, in the sense that these men are very much interested in evangelism, even the methodology of evangelism.

Oh, and quickly, one of the panel members, Chris Mooney, stirred the pot more than once, causing a few sparks to fly.
