From Kansas Boys Galore

We eagerly anticipate the Reformed Presbyterian International Conference to be held this summer. Promotional material for the quadrennial conference has changed over the years since it began in 1926. Then, it was known as the national conference of the Covenanter Young People’s Union. It convened at Winona Lake, Indiana. The following song in the Pittsburgh Presbytery’s Cheer Booster advertised the event in the 1920s and 30s. It is set to the tune “Jingle Bells” (though I confess, I have some trouble making it work musically).

There are folks from Iowa,
From Kansas boys galore,
From New York “Oh the pretty girls,”
From Pittsburgh hundreds more,
You meet so many friends
You want to change your life,
You may even persuade “Her” here
She ought to be your wife.

Chorus. – C. Y. P. U.   C. Y. P. U.
Make your music fly,
Send your echoes soaring
Way up to the sky.
C. Y. P. U.   C. Y. P. U.
Sing with cheer and snap,
Show Winona’s good folks
That you are on the map.

Oh, when we meet together, together, together,
No matter what the weather
Or what the time of day:
Just grab a hand and shake it, and shake
it, and shake it,
And as for greeting make it in the good
old fashioned way.

Go to the 2012 conference website. Mercifully, you will not find such illustrious advertising, but you will find everything you need to register! The conference runs July 21-27, 2012. It will be held at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana. Registration closes May 21, 2012, so register soon.

We look forward to rich times of worship, teaching, singing, fellowship, athletic events, eating, and more. Dr. Joel Beeke will speak each day on “How to Live the Christian Life.” The conference is open to everyone, and we look forward to seeing you there!

Remo I. Robb, one time Young People’s Secretary for the denomination, wrote a song about our quadrenniel conferences. It has its own words and tune. It’s catchy. No, I don’t have a copy.
