An Open Letter to the President

Last week we highlighted the effort of The Teenage Life Club to see a million letters sent this month to the President and the Supreme Court asking for them to use their power to overturn Roe v. Wade.  Having just taught a worldview class today where we watched the first part of "The Case against Abortion" video (scroll down the page to view), I was again struck by how blind our generation is to this detestable sin.  We need to be equipped to speak to hearts in a way that seeks, by the power of the Spirit, to persuade and win them to truth.

To encourage others to join this effort of the young people, below is the letter I sent to the president.

Dear Mr. President,  
  
As the executive leader of our land, chosen by the people to defend the Constitution_ _and protect all the citizens of our nation, I am writing to tell you that our congregation is praying for you.  I am also writing to ask you respectfully to consider that the opening words of the Constitution require you to protect unborn life.  
  
Please read again carefully the preamble to the Constitution that you have sworn to uphold:  
  
“_We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and **our Posterity**, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America_.”  
  
Clearly our founders, under the mercy and providence of the God that you ask to bless us at the end of each speech, established the principles of freedom that govern this nation for their own generation as well as for their posterity, or those yet unborn.  When we allow the taking of innocent human lives of the next generation through the violent act of abortion, can we really expect the Lord to continue to bless us?  Indeed, blessing only comes to us and our children when, as the Scriptures say, we “love God and keep His commandments” (Exodus 20:6).  
  
Mr. President, please look into the beautiful faces of your daughters and remember the time that your wife carried them in her womb.  Your heart tells you they were children then as they are now.  Please use your powers of persuasion to tell the American people, members of Congress, and the Supreme Court Justices that the time has come to repent of this national sin and overturn the decision of Roe v. Wade.
