In this new year, could I suggest you add to your regular prayer list pastors for the church in Asia? As the Holy Spirit continues growing His great work of enlightening and enlivening the gospel throughout Asia, we continue to see the greatest need being men to preach that gospel and the preservation of those already preaching it.
Specifically, let’s join together to…
…pray for more pastors. The fields truly are white for harvest and Jesus has charged us to pray for harvesters with the assurance that He will answer. (Mt. 9:36-38)
…pray for better-equipped pastors. While the church in Asia continues to expand at rates almost unfathomable to those of us in the west, much of the church remains in extreme immaturity, both in doctrine and Christian life. What’s needed is men who understand the Word deeply and have an excellent ability to communicate it. Pray for those currently being trained inside and outside Asia–both situations have benefits and drawbacks.
…pray for pastors’ endurance. Many pastors in Asia are laboring under burdens that would crush most western pastors, myself included. Their workload is enormous, their isolation often discouraging, their governments often oppressive and their enemy always at work. Pray that God would cause those already serving to endure by His strength and grace.
Thanks for praying. I believe we will look back at this time in history with amazement at the power of the Spirit and the gospel…and we will rejoice simply to have been a partner in prayer with one of the greatest gospel movements in history!
