The Gospel & Sexual Orientation

Last summer in a post called "The Gay Mirage," I witnessed to the frustration of the homosexual lifestyle.  The thirsty lust of this sin will never be satisfied, for its promises of happiness are illusory.  Those trapped in it need to be called to the real waters that Jesus provides.

At the time I promised to make known at first opportunity an important work that some brothers were doing on this topic, most notably our fellow blogger Dr. Michael LeFebvre who served as editor and authored much of this work.  The book, entitled _The Gospel & Sexual Orientation, _is now available to be pre-ordered at Crown & Covenant Publications.  Here is their review:

In 2010, a committee was appointed by the Synod of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America to study "one of the most important cultural issues of our day." Synod saw the need to provide guidance for congregations on the subject of homosexual orientation, not simply about the scriptural, scientific and moral issues, but also guidance for care and counsel to someone who believes their identity is homosexual.

The result is a rare paper worthy of a book and worthy of a readership beyond a small church denomination and even beyond the realm of conservative presbyterianism. The work not only interacts with contemporary scholarship and holds the Scriptures in high esteem, but also presents a model of how to care for and walk alongside a person who is struggling with his or her sexual identity. In a demonstration of overwhelming acceptance for this compassionate scholarship, the paper was received and adopted unanimously in the RP Synod of 2011.

We hope you will read this book, test it against what the Bible says, encourage discussion in your local church and share it with others.
Having read this work in its early stages and then followed its progress as it was discussed through the courts of our church, I can testify to the accuracy of this review.  As this topic is not going away anytime soon, the church needs to be further equipped on how to stand firm with crystal clear doctrinal accuracy on the uniqueness and role of male and female sexuality as well as how to minister with compassion to those who are confused about it.  This small gem of a book (only 76 pages but filled with needed history, pinpointed footnotes from modern research, and most of all clear, Biblical teaching) will greatly help God's people to do so.
