He will not forget your works!
This is a guest post by David McCullough - Minister of Woodstock R.P.C., Belfast - who penned this reflection on Christian Service while on holiday...
Footprints in the Sand
Strolling back across one of the most beautiful beaches in Ireland recently, I noticed that the footprints I had made on my outward journey had so quickly disappeared. Within minutes of my passing, wind blown rivulets of sand had filled my footprints. It was as if my journey had not happened, nothing to show for me being there.
A Faithful Courageous Servant
As I stood on the beach examining the shifting sand grains, a conversation from the previous evening came to mind. I had been chatting with a colleague about a mutual acquaintance who had served the Lord in the sea ports of the Republic of Ireland. For most of his life, he had bravely boarded ships from the distant corners of the globe, witnessing to sailors of every creed, culture and continent. My colleague and I recounted some of our encounters with this industrious and unique servant, now in glory.
A Forgotten Memory Lost
As far as the world was concerned, his life, like thousands of missionaries across the world, and through the ages, never left a mark - their endeavors in serving Christ are now long forgotten, and rising generations will simply never know they existed. The days and nights of faithful service are now filled-in with the sands of time - no evident trace remains.
Your Faithfulness Is Known
Praise God that the grace empowered endeavors of the saints, indeed their lives, are never forgotten by the Lord - His plodding people are assured that if time blows a ton of sand grains into the indentations of their lives, He has seen it all. So though the world will forget and a generation arise who will never know you even existed,
“God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do.” Hebrews 6:10 (ESV)
