Thirty-one Attributes to Pray for Leaders

Need ideas for fresh ways to pray for your leaders? Or perhaps you need fresh direction in prayer for your government leaders who wrangle in ways that irritate or frustrate you?

Public Servants' Prayer seeks to aid Christians in praying faithfully for leaders and has published the following thirty-one attributes to pray for leaders through the month. Or, if you are able, take thirty-one minutes to pray in these ways for your leaders today:

  • Day 1 : Be Accountable. Pray that leaders will recognize that they are accountable to God for all they do. [Psalm 2:10-12]
  • Day 2 : Be Approachable. Pray that leaders with be approachable and teachable in spirit. [1 Peter 5:5]
  • Day 3 : Be Bold. Pray that leaders will be emboldened to execute their responsibilities without fear. [Proverbs 28:1]
  • Day 4 : Be Circumspect. Pray that leaders will be circumspect in how they govern. [Ephesians 5:15]
  • Day 5 : Be Civil. Pray that leaders will be civil in their behavior and pursue peace. [Romans 12:18]
  • Day 6 : Be Committed. Pray that leaders will have a mind to work and fulfill all the duties related to their position. [Nehemiah 4:6]
  • Day 7 : Be Compassionate. Pray that leaders will exercise compassion and kindness in all their dealings with people. [Colossians 3:12]
  • Day 8 : Be Creative. Pray that leaders will make the most of the position they have been given. [Proverbs 22:29]
  • Day 9 : Be Dependable. Pray that leaders will be dependable in both the important and seemingly insignificant matters they handle. [Matthew 25:21]
  • Day 10 : Be Diligent. Pray that leaders will be diligent in all the tasks they manage. [Proverbs 10:4]
  • Day 11 : Be Faithful. Pray that leaders will remain faithful in their roles and responsibilities. [Proverbs 20:6]
  • Day 12 : Be Gracious. Pray that leaders will be gracious in word and action toward all those they interact with on a daily basis. [Proverbs 16:24]
  • Day 13 : Be Gentle. Pray that leaders will exercise gentleness in their responses. [Proverbs 15:1]
  • Day 14 : Be Honest. Pray that leaders will speak with truth and be honest in all their dealings with people. [Proverbs 20:28]
  • Day 15 : Be Humble. Pray that leaders will be humble before the Lord and others. [Proverbs 22:4]
  • Day 16 : Be Just. Pray that leaders will be just in their decisions and actions. [Deuteronomy 16:19]
  • Day 17 : Be a Leader. Pray that leaders will be exemplary in their leadership roles. [Proverbs 10:5]
  • Day 18: Be Loyal. Pray that leaders will exercise loyalty in their duties and relationships. [1 Samuel 18:1]
  • Day 19: Be Merciful. Pray that leaders will recognize that it is mercy that preserves and upholds them. [Proverbs 20:28]
  • Day 20: Be Patient. Pray that leaders will be patient in spirit and deed. [Ecclesiastes 7:8]
  • Day 21: Be Persistent. Pray that leaders will persist in the work they are given despite all odds. [1 Corinthians 9:24-27]
  • Day 22: Be Prudent. Pray that leaders will exercise prudence in their choices and decisions. [Proverbs 22:3]
  • Day 23: Be Reasonable. Pray that leaders will be known as reasonable and rational. [Philippians 4:5]
  • Day 24: Be Responsible. Pray that leaders will be responsible in all their deliberations, decisions and actions. [Luke 16:10]
  • Day 25: Be Saved. Pray that leaders will believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and confess Him to be their Savior. [Romans 10:9-10]
  • Day 26: Be Self-Controlled. Pray that leaders will be guarded in their tongue and spirit. [Proverbs 14:17]
  • Day 27: Be Selfless. Pray that leaders will put the needs of those they serve above their own and govern in humility. [Philippians 2:3-4]
  • Day 28: Be a Servant. Pray that leaders will serve others even as they are being served. [Mark 10:41-44]
  • Day 29: Be Steadfast. Pray that leaders will remain steadfast in their calling. [1 Corinthians 15:58]
  • Day 30: Be Strong. Pray that leaders will be strengthened to bear the weight of their responsibilities in the midst of pressures and challenges. [Proverbs 24:10]
  • Day 31: Be Wise. Pray that leaders will rule with the wisdom that comes from God. [2 Chronicles 1:10]
