3GT Episode 217: The First Adam

The guys always enjoy visitors who make the podcast 3GT+1, especially when the guest raises their collective IQ significantly! Such is the case on this episode, as Dr. William VanDoodewaard, Professor of Church History at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, joins them to discuss the person of Adam.

As author of the book The Quest for the Historical Adam: Genesis, Hermeneutics, and Human Origins, Bill explores with the 3GTers the true historicity of Adam. He describes the influence of evolutionary teaching on the church that led him to do his research. The good doctor then traces the church's teaching on Adam, showing the consistent commitment to Adam as the father of the whole human race in historic, confessional Christianity. Yet Bill also explains deviations that arose as outside influences challenged a Biblical commitment to Adam as the progenitor. The episode then concludes with application, as the gents interact further with Dr. V. about the implications on Biblical interpretation, covenant theology, Christology, etc., if Adam is not who the first chapters of Genesis so clearly state that he is.

So tune in to this episode of 3GT! But hear this bit of a warning. You may want to have the pause button handy so you can chew on what you just heard!
