Hope for a Hopeless Nation
(Author’s Note: This post is a continuation of short pieces submitted to local papers as letters to the editor which is the extent of my present opportunity. Though very limited, I am persuaded that this is something I should do. Also, I hope that these letters will be an encouragement to others to seek and seize the same opportunity in their local papers.)
It is often said that history does not repeat itself, but it rhymes. This is because the same God applies His same justice. One nation is enlisted by God to discipline another and then they themselves are disciplined for their own idolatries and immoralities. Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Greece, Rome, Europe, Britain, America. Is China the next instrument of God's justice? Who will discipline us? Who will study the ruins of Washington, D.C., New York and Los Angeles like we do those of Rome, Corinth and Athens? We are naïve if we think our nation will endure forever. We are blind if we think we are not corrupt. We are fools if we think we will not be disciplined. “I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that his justice cannot sleep forever.” Thomas Jefferson.
But, in the midst of this series of ruined nations, a kingdom was established with an eternal King. He conquered corruption and endured its discipline. He established justice and administrates its peace. He gives life to the dead, rest to the weary, humility to the proud, hope to the despairing. You know who He is and what you need to do. Be reconciled to Him in repentance and faith. He will not reject anyone who comes to Him but will endlessly destroy all who don’t. Why will you suffer, now and forever? Submit to Him and live truly and eternally.
