3GT Episode 326: Why Sing?

Well, some think that podcasts should not have introductory banter. Just get to the subject at hand, they say. So, in light of that helpful instruction, the 3GTers make fun of it and banter away at the beginning about the Carpenters (a cultural nod to the old guy) and a few other things before they get to the subject at hand. As Reformed Presbyterians, we often talk about what we sing regarding the content of our singing in worship (Hint: The Psalms!). But why do we sing in worship in the first place?

The guys tackle this subject with gusto. They reference Reformation history. They show how God's Word commands that we sing. They talk about how the Lord is worthy of our praise. They talk about the need for emotions in worship that singing addresses and regulates. They point out that we are to sing to one another in our union with Christ. They discuss the human desire to sing. They highlight the victorious nature of singing about the joy of our salvation. They offer practical advice for singing for those who may be reluctant to sing. And though they tried really hard, they could just not help talking about the Psalms!

If you need encouragement to sing in worship, tune into this episode of Three Guys Theologizing!
