/ Two Ways Psalm 1 / Andrew Kerr

The Word or the World!

1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. 4 The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; 6 for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. (Ps. 1:1-6 ESV)

Psalm 1 sets two ways before us as follows:

1. Choice of our Way - Lies or Truth

2. Consequence of our Way - Chaff or Fruit

3. Conclusion of our Way - Fall or Rise

Christ is the Man who chose the Truth, was filled with Fruit, and Rose on the third day - so that those who by grace submit to the Son might love the truth, produce its fruit, and stand in judgment.

And don't miss the chiastic parallelism of v3:

A And He shall be like a tree planted by irrigation channels of water

B Which bears its fruit in season

b Whose leaf does not wither

a In all that He does he shall prosper

In other words…He prospers like a well-irrigated tree in this double sense of first timely productivity and second evergreen vitality.

If that is the case, all things considered, only a fool would prefer the world-way instead of Word-way - is it not, therefore, a wonderful mark of grace when we are consumed with the delight of Christ to be taught in the Truth?

For the sake of the blood of Jesus, pardon my indolence & grant me warm obedience!
