3GT Episode 338: Honoring One Another
After their typical banter and razzing of one another, the guys become a bit more serious. Recent weeks have seen the loss of major evangelical figures, such as John MacArthur and James Dobson. As tributes roll out, as well as criticisms, the question arises: How are we as the church to honor one another, whether living or deceased?
Kyle offers a paradigm taken from the fifth commandment, using the Larger Catechism for direction. We are reminded that we are to honor those who are superiors over us in authority, age, or graces. The guys discuss that, though we are to honor each other in the church, it is biblical and proper to show special regard to those who have served well or influenced our lives. Given the modern tendency to jump on social media and berate other Christians, the guys warn about making sure we are careful in our speech in this regard. For those who have died, while their memories are to be honored, bestowing an elevated sainthood upon them should be avoided. Ways of properly honoring those who have gone before us are shared. As we look at the Scriptures and see saints honored there, their follies and the lessons that we could learn from them are included as well.
Well, if you want to honor the three theologizing guys, you can simply push play and listen along to this episode!
