Walking With God Through Memory Loss
Where are my keys? Where is my wallet? I can’t remember where I put my glasses. Ugh, what is wrong with me?
God, the Creator of the ends of the earth (Isaiah 40:28), knows exactly where you placed your missing items. He has ordained this memory loss, this suffering, for your good and His glory. He hears you when you pray to Him, and He will help you find your missing things.
Where is my money? I’m sure I had some here. Where is my bank statement? I asked for it last week, and it’s still not here. My children must be stealing from me! I am all alone and need to defend myself.
God is the defender of the fatherless and the widow. He sees all the things that are done to you and for you, and knows the thoughts and intents of the heart. He knows the truth of every situation and will bring to judgment every thought, word, and deed, no matter how small. You can trust in Him.
What day of the week is it? What was I supposed to do today? I’m worthless and helpless. I can’t help others, and some days I can’t even take care of myself.
You are precious in God’s sight, and your worth and value do not come from the things you can do. All your life you have worked hard. Now it is time for you to rest and trust in God. He will never leave you nor forsake you, even when you cannot accomplish the things you would like.
Where are we going? I used to drive every day, but now I don’t remember the way. Why are you taking me on your boring shopping trip? Why can’t I go to the stores that I like?
You have lost much. You have lost your independence, your hobbies, your work, and perhaps your spouse and your children. You can remember what you like to do, but cannot do it any more. No matter what else you lose, you can never lose God. His love is not changed by your circumstances. He loves you perfectly – He always has, and always will.
Have you seen my wife? You look a lot like her, perhaps you knew her? You should tell her to come see me more often. She hasn’t visited me in months, and that’s just not right….What? You are telling me that you are my wife? How can that be? I’m so confused.
God the Father sent His only begotten Son, Jesus, to die for your sins. If you have repented and believed in His Name, then your name is written in the Book of Life, and you will live forever in heaven with Him. Although you have forgotten the names of those nearest and dearest to you, God has not forgotten your name, for it is written before Him in His Book forever.
Hello? Goodbye? All I see is darkness, and I am afraid. I don’t remember my name. Sometimes I just want to die, and other times I am terrified of dying. Are you coming? Hold my hand. Please don’t leave... Are you going? Don’t crowd me. Please go away. Help…
When you pass through the valley of the shadow of death, even there God will be with you. Where no man can go, there He is, and He will bring you safely to glory.
